The Fluid Power Canon (essential reading) section is intended to provide assistance to researchers in location original/source material in various areas of fluid power technology. If supported by our colleagues, it will contain short reviews of essential publications and reference/bibliographical lists in certain areas of fluid power research. It is hoped that specialists in differenr areas of technology, research students who are collecting references for their work will contribute to this section. The aim of this section is to assist in the identification of areas of research where future efforts should be directed and hopefully to prevent needless duplication of research effort.

Long transmission lines. This review deals predominantly with research papers published in international journals, reports and books available in English. No doubt researchers publishing in other languages also contributed to the body of knowledge - hopefully some of our colleagues will be able to point this out.
